I purchased my silver 40mm Apple Watch Series 5 back in March 2020 during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.
It has now been six months since I purchased the smartwatch from Best Buy and the experience I have had has been a pretty good one.
For starters, the CARROT Weather app and complication has been my favorite part of it. I love the simplicity of looking at my Apple Watch and seeing the current weather conditions in my area.
Another feature I do like about the app is simply answering text messages from it. This might sound stupid and not justify spending $385 on a smartwatch, but for somebody who may be in a grocery store or on the road, answering a text message from your Apple Watch is very convenient.
Checking my calendar from Fantastical and making calculations with Calcbot (which came in handy for me when calculating a tip at a restaurant a few weeks ago) are easy and make it so I don’t have to spend as much time on my iPhone 8 Plus.
However, the feature that I love the most is using Apple Pay and Apple Card. In fact, I probably use Apple Pay from my Apple Watch 95 percent of the time now because of how perfect it is. Press the button on the side twice, put your wrist over the card reader, and just like that, your transaction is done.
I have done this at a lot of places such as Taco John’s, McDonald’s and Hy-Vee. If anything, people think it is cool and are impressed by it.
watchOS 7 has recently made my Apple Watch even faster. The animations are so much quicker and more fluid. I do miss not having Force Touch on it, but it is something I could learn to get used to.
While it is not the new Apple Watch Series 6, I have no plans on trading in my Series 5 or selling it to get the Series 6. What I have works, does what I want it to do and keeps aspects of my life simple, which is one of the best parts of the smartwatch.
