This year, Apple is getting its Apple Pay service to help out with a worthy cause.
For Earth Day this year, which is on Thursday, April 22, the company will be donating $1 for every Apple Pay transaction made through Apple’s website, the Apple Store app and Apple retail stores.
The news comes right after Apple announced this morning that it has invested $200 million in a carbon removal program called “Restore Fund” that is said to provide natural solutions to climate change.
Lisa Jackson, vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives at Apple, said in a statement that the program will do great wonders for the environment.
“Nature provides some of the best tools to remove carbon from the atmosphere,” she said. “Forests, wetlands, and grasslands draw carbon from the atmosphere and store it away permanently in their soils, roots, and branches.Through creating a fund that generates both a financial return as well as real, and measurable carbon impacts, we aim to drive broader change in the future ”” encouraging investment in carbon removal around the globe. Our hope is that others share our goals and contribute their resources to support and protect critical ecosystems.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted about the initiative this morning too.
Apple is proud to be carbon neutral & by 2030 our products and manufacturing will be too. We take a new step today with a $200M fund to invest in working forests, one of nature’s best tools to remove carbon.?? Â https://t.co/HCWyE0vbIF
