Rumors of the upcoming third-generation AirPods have been circulating for months. According to a new report form Nikkei Asia, mass production of the aforementioned headphones is set to kick off next month, so we could see those as part of Apple’s major hardware announcements in the fall.
While we can expect to see the next-generation iPhone as soon as September, Apple could instead wait a little longer to announce their widely popular headset via a press release similar to what they’ve done when announcing both the AirPods Pro/Max.
The AirPods 3 is expected to adopt a design that’s akin to the current AirPods Pro with shorter stems and silicone ear tips of various sizes. To further differentiate it from the higher end AirPods Pro, it will most likely omit at least Active Noise Cancellation.
For the AirPods Pro, we could see a redesign that omits the stems completely and takes design cues from the recently launched Beats Studio Buds. But that update won’t come out earlier than the first half of 2022.
