While Apple is busy developing iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and HomePodOS software, the company is not forgetting the next major updates to every one of the software lineups like iOS 16. And in a new report, it looks like iOS 16 will drop support for six/seven years old devices – iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and the first generation iPhone SE.

In a new report by iPhonesoft, Apple is expected to drop support for the three iPhones alongside older iPads as well. The iPads that Apple is set to exclude from the list of supported devices are iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad 5, and the 2015 iPad Pros (both the 9.7″ and 12.9″ models).

All the devices listed above feature Apple’s A8/A8X chip and A9/A9X chip respectively. This means if the report is correct, A10/A10X devices and up are required for users to update. Apple announces every major software update during the traditional Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) every June. iOS and iPadOS 16 are expected to be unveiled at next year’s event.

As we know: reports, rumors, and speculation always have to be taken with a grain of salt, as the outlet predicted last year that Apple will drop support for the three devices on iOS 15 – which turned out to be incorrect. So again, take this report with a grain of salt, as Apple could still find a way to keep the devices up to date.

The French outlet also gives a list of all devices that iOS 16 will support:
