This year’s iPhone 14 is expected to bring new updates to the whole lineup, these include the design, camera, battery, and more. But when it comes to displays, all iPhone 14 devices are now expected to feature 120Hz ProMotion.
Last year, the iPhone 13 lineup debuted with four devices that are:
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
The biggest difference between the high-end Pro devices and the cheaper baseline models is the ProMotion display ”“ being a feature exclusive to pro devices ”“. However, according to Jeff Pu via MacRumors, we can expect the 120Hz technology is spilling to all models, ending the contrast.
“In a research note with Haitong International Securities, obtained by MacRumors, Pu claimed that all iPhone 14 models will feature ProMotion displays, compared to only Pro models currently. ProMotion enables a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz for smoother appearing content when watching video, gaming, or scrolling.”
Also in the report, Pu cites that the base models of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are expected to feature 256GB of storage. Currently, iPhone 13 devices storage starts at 128GB, which means that for the same price, the iPhone 14 lineup doubles from 128GB to 256GB.
Pu previously mentioned that 2023’s iPhone 15 will feature Periscope Lens with 10x Optical Zoom, something we still haven’t seen in an iPhone yet. Meanwhile, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the iPhone 14 will debut with a hole-punch display and a 48MP wide camera.
Finally, another recent report by @dylandkt noted that the next iPhone will feature a pill-shaped camera cutout instead of a hole-punch.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 14 lineup in a traditional September event just like last year, in addition to the Apple Watch Series 8 and potentially new products.
