Apple has always been wise enough to make the world a more inclusive place through its services and products. For example, the tech giant has offered special edition Pride Edition Watch bands in honor of Pride Month, and for this month, Apple came out with a Black Unity Braided Solo Loop to celebrate Black History Month.
On the contrary, digital assistants offered only female-sounding voices by default. As a huge step to its ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, Apple added more diverse options for Siri, including those recorded by not only men, but also by Black actors. In the most recent beta of iOS 15.4, Apple now offers a fifth American voice that was recorded by a member of the LGBTQ+ community. This new voice will sound more gender-neutral or non-binary than earlier Siri voices.
Although the voice’s codename is “Quinn”, Apple lists the voice as “Voice 5”. So users will need to know this reference if they want to choose it as their preference. This is a huge win for members of the LGBTQ+ community, especially non-binary people.
With the rumored Apple event coming in a few weeks, we can expect Apple to release iOS 15.4 to the public. What do you think about this more inclusive voice option for Siri? Let us know in the comments below!
