Apple Confirms Opening of Myeongdong Store on April 9th

Today, on the 6th of April, Apple announced the opening of its brand new flagship store Myengdeong in Seoul, South Korea. The store will welcome its first customers on Saturday, April 9, at 10 a.m. local time. Apple is also reiterating that employees’ health and welfare are their top priority amidst the current COVID-19 crisis, which houses over 220 employees, who all speak together 22 different languages.

This will be the first Apple Store to feature a workshop with a popular k-pop group, SEVENTEEN, the store also features a huge banner of the band. The band will also exclusively perform their newest single “Darl+ing” at the opening event, arriving ahead of their new EP that will debut in May. Apple is also collaborating with other artists for inspirational Today at Apple sessions celebrating Korean creativity in all forms:

  • Art Lab: “Draw Springtime Floral Greetings” with artist Nanan Kang
  • Photo Lab: “Capture the Colors of Seoul” with travel photographer Lee Jongbeom
  • Exclusive: In Conversation with Minha Kim, star of the new Apple Original drama “Pachinko”
  • Art Lab: “Create Your Own Abstract World in AR” with artist VAKKI

The new Apple Store also celebrates new Apple TV+ originals that are Korean originals, including “Dr. Brain” and “Pachinko”. Apple has additionally worked with artist Park Chan-wook on a Shot on iPhone special “Life Is But A Dream”.

Apple has been operating in South Korea for more than 20 years, but this store is considered one of its flagship stores, and will most likely strengthen the relationship between the Cupertino-based giant and South Korea.
