Today is Earth Day, a chance to demonstrate environmental protection as well as save the planet from climate change. Apple has refreshed its website and dedicated this day to promoting its progress with every product from the Apple Watch, to the iPhone, to the Mac.
“In a year where the technology we make touched more lives than ever, teams across Apple never stopped innovating to protect the planet,” said Lisa Jackson, Vice President, Environment, Policy & Social Initiatives. “Whether it’s using more recycled materials in our products, or transitioning our supply chain to 100 percent clean energy, there is no part of Apple this work does not reach.”
During this year’s Earth Day celebration, on Apple.com, the company has highlighted its progress regarding the production of environmentally-friendly devices. Apple says that it “has a plan” for every product it produces. The goal is to make products with net-zero carbon impact by 2030 using these methods:

Low-carbon design: We’re designing carbon impact out of our products by increasing recycled content, using material more efficiently, and reducing the amount of energy they use.
- Energy efficiency: We’re finding more ways to increase energy efficiency across all our retail stores, data centers, offices, and manufacturing sites.
- Renewable electricity: Our corporate operations already run on 100% renewable electricity generated from solar, wind, and other renewable sources. By 2030, clean energy will be used to make every Apple product and will account for customers’ product energy use as well.
- Avoiding direct emissions: We’re finding solutions for manufacturing and shipping materials, components, and products in ways that reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions.
- Carbon removal: By investing in nature, we’re working to remove carbon from the atmosphere to address the emissions we can’t yet avoid, while also supporting local communities and restoring biodiversity.
The company has released its 2022 Progress Report (PDF) which reveals the entire progress of its environmental goals such as Climate Change, Resources, Smarter Chemistry, Engagement, and Appendix.
Usually, Apple celebrates Earth Day by promoting it on the App Store in order to educate users on the environmental issues the planet is struggling with. We expect a special overhaul to come out later this day.
Apple has been focusing and putting strong efforts to protect the environment since 2016. The Cupertino-based giant owns a solar energy subsidiary – Apple Energy, LLC –, Apple states that 100% of its U.S. operations run on renewable energy.
The headquarters – Apple Park – which is one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the world, is also one of the largest solar roofs in the world. In addition, the roof generates 17 megawatts of power, capable to power 75% during peak daytime.
