Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter expects the next-generation iPhone 14 Pro models to feature larger batteries, and you should expect those models to appear slightly thicker to accommodate the batteries’ size. Battery life has always been an essential aspect for many iPhone users who want to get their work done on the go. However, in this case, Apple could increase the size of the battery for the highly-anticipated always-on display feature.

Originally introduced with the Apple Watch Series 5, the iPhone 14 Pro will implement this feature to showcase the date/time and compilations on the reimagined iOS 16 lock screen. Remember that the iPhone 13 Pro models have displays with variable refresh rates, ranging from 10Hz – 120Hz. This is one step towards Apple’s always-on-display experience they’ve dreamed of from the beginning. Now that the refreshed rate could go below 10Hz, the always-on display would save even more energy since the display wouldn’t need to refresh as often when in this special mode. Combined with the upcoming A16 chip’s improved power efficiency and larger batteries, customers could see comparable battery life on those models, if not better.

Apple expects to debut the iPhone 14 lineup with a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple will do away with the “mini” form factor for their flagship phones.
