Netflix officially announced its ad tier version of its streaming service today.

The monthly cost of it will be $6.99 and be called “Basic with Ads.”

It will be launching in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK and the United States.

Video quality on this version of Netflix will be at 720p/HD. The ads themselves are said to be 4-5 minutes per hour and be 15-30-seconds per ad that will be shown before and after films and TV shows.

However, the streaming service did also say that due to ads being on Netflix, for those on that ad-supported plan, some movies and TV may not be available due to licensing limitations. Netflix has said they are working to fix that problem in the future.

Netflix did say while having ads on the platform is a start, it is happy users will have more affordable options to stream their favorite content, as well as give credit to the people and entities making this possible.

Basic with Ads will launch just six months after we first announced the option of a lower priced ads plan. None of this would have been possible without our team’s hard work or Microsoft’s extraordinary partnership. The switch from linear is happening at an ever increasing speed, with streaming now surpassing broadcast and cable in the US. We’re confident that with Netflix starting at $6.99 a month, we now have a price and plan for every fan. While it’s still very early days, we’re pleased with the interest from both consumers and the advertising community ”” and couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. As we learn from and improve the experience, we expect to launch in more countries over time.”

For those that are still interested in streaming Netflix without ads, that plan starts at just $9.99 a month.

Netflix is available to stream on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac.
