As of Thursday night, multiple third-party Twitter apps like Tweetbot, Twitterrific, and others are currently not functional.
Last night, when users opened these third-party apps, they were told from those apps that their accounts were not accessible and were prompted to re-sign-in to Twitter from the apps. However, this brought the next issue of those apps not being able to connect to Twitter to sign-in.
As of Friday morning, the issue still has not been resolved on Twitter’s end. It is unknown whether or not this is a simple issue within the company itself or the beginning of the end for the third-party Twitter apps.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk did take over the company late last year and Twitter has already seen a few new changes to the service with more to come in 2023. As for whether or not third-party Twitter apps will still be a thing is up in the air. At this time, Twitter has not made an exact decision on their fate, therefore, the Twitter API, a set of rules and guidelines for app developers making Twitter apps that shows and tells what they can and cannot have in a third-party Twitter app, is still there and operational.
As of right now, the Twitter API Status page states that everything is currently operational.
The official Tweetbot and Twitterrific Twitter accounts did tweet late Thursday night that they are aware of the issues surrounding their apps right now and have reached out to Twitter for further assistance on the matter.
Tweetbot and other clients are experiencing problems logging in to Twitter. We’ve reached out to Twitter for more details, but haven’t heard back.
We’re hoping this is just a temporary glitch and will let you know more as soon as we know more.
