The long-awaited refresh of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros has been on the horizon for quite some time with some reports indicating that those two machines have been delayed. However, according to Jon Prosser, it looks like we’ll be getting the first product announcement for this year from Apple.
Similar to what Apple did with the iPad 10 and M2 iPad Pro back in October, we could expect just a press release on Apple’s website, which could mean that no major features won’t be added besides the system-on-the-chip upgrade (from M1 Pro/Max to M2 Pro/Max). Nonetheless, the current generation of the higher-end MacBook Pros will still be an incredible value for professionals and those who want the best Mac notebook ever made.
We can also expect an upgraded version of the Mac mini tomorrow since it was last updated in November 2020 with the M1 chip. The higher-end Intel-based model has remained in the Mac mini lineup since then; since both the MacBook Air and 13-inch Pro received the M2 chip, it would make more sense for the mini to receive the same treatment. We could also see Apple offering the M2 Pro-based Mac mini to replace the existing Intel counterpart. Prosser also reports that Apple will hold briefings later this week with the press media, so they can review the aforementioned products in advanced.
All of these machines were rumored to be released last fall, but that timeframe came and went. One reason that Apple could announce those computers is that Apple might be saving its next bigger launches for a possible March event, possibly the highly-anticipated “Reality Pro” headset as well as the upcoming 15-inch MacBook Air and Mac Pro. We’ll just have to wait and see what Apple will bring for tomorrow.
