Apple has started rolling out iOS 16.4.1 and iPadOS 16.4.1 to the public with important bug fixes and security updates. These updates come a week and four days after the release of iOS 16.4 & iPadOS 16.4 which brought new emojis, web app notifications, new beta settings, and more. Apple keeps refining the software experience with every iOS 16.x.x & iPadOS 16.x.x update whilst also fixing security issues.

According to Apple, iOS 16.4.1 & iPadOS 16.4.1 includes fixes to the following bugs:

  • Pushing hands emoji does not show skin tone variations
  • Siri does not respond in some cases

In addition to the above, Apple also fixed two security vulnerabilities in this update:

IOSurfaceAccelerator Vulnerability: This vulnerability has the potential to allow an app to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple has improved input validation to address an out-of-bounds write issue that was causing this vulnerability.

WebKit Vulnerability: This vulnerability has the potential to process maliciously crafted web content, which may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple has improved memory management to address a use after free issue that was causing this vulnerability.

Both these vulnerabilities were discovered and reported by Clément Lecigne of Google’s Threat Analysis Group and Donncha Ó Cearbhaill of Amnesty International’s Security Lab.

It is highly recommended to update your iPhone and iPad to the latest software for the best experience and the best security.
