Apple pioneered 5G connectivity with the iPhone 12 series that was introduced in October 2020; six months later, Apple would bring the ultra-fast cellular technology to the iPad Pro with the M1 chip. Currently, all of the iPhones and the latest iPads that Apple currently sells support this advanced connectivity.
Today marks the biggest news for Apple and 5G technology as the world’s largest mobile device company teamed up with the world’s leading U.S. technology and advanced manufacturing company, Broadcom as part of a multiyear, multibillion-dollar agreement. With this partnership, Broadcom will bring even more advances in 5G technology, which includes development in radio frequency and wireless connectivity components.
“We’re thrilled to make commitments that harness the ingenuity, creativity, and innovative spirit of American manufacturing. All of Apple’s products depend on technology engineered and built here in the United States, and we’ll continue to deepen our investments in the U.S. economy because we have an unshakable belief in America’s future.”
-Tim Cook
Broadcom has several manufacturing and technology hubs that will design and build the FBAR filters as part of the development of radio frequency components with over 1,000 jobs in the major facility in Fort Collins.
This collaboration with Broadcom will allow Apple to continue investing in the development of 5G technology in the United States.
