The streaming service previously known as HBO Max has officially launched its new rebranded service as “MAX.”
By renaming this service, it combines content from both HBO Max and Discovery+ into one streaming service. The reason for the merging of the two services is due to the Warner Bros-Discovery merger that happened in 2021. Since the companies merged together, the company is now called “Warner Bros. Discovery” (WBD).Â
Here are the plans for MAX:
- MAX Ad-Lite: $9.99 a month with two current streams, up to 1080 video quality, no offline downloads, and 5.1 surround sound support.
Â
- MAX Ad-Free: $15.99 a month with two current streams at once, up to 1080p video quality, and 5.1 surround sound support.
Â
- MAX Unlimited Ad-Free: $19.99 a month and will include up to four streams at once, 4K Ultra HD video quality, 100 offline downloads, and Dolby Atmos support.
Some users have already reported some issues with the new MAX app, specifically on the Apple TV. This includes the app not supporting the native tvOS player, with MAX using its own player for media content playback.

9to5Mac has highlighted other features missing from the MAX tvOS app as well that are below:
- “What did he/she/they say?”
- Picture In Picture
- System-wide audio/subtitle preferences
- Reduce Loud Sounds
- Dim Flashing Lights
- Up Next
It was also mentioned by a Reddit user that MAX does not currently have support for the Apple TV app. This means that users who open the app will not see any content they have recently streamed from MAX appear on it.
MAX is available to stream on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac.
