Porsche announced today that the company is going to be providing much more extensive coverage when it comes to its support of CarPlay in its vehicles.
This includes some exciting updates to the My Porsche app, according to Mattias Ulbrich, CEO of Porsche Digital and CIO Porsche AG.
“We are excited to further improve the My Porsche App and using the capabilities of Apple CarPlay to deliver a truly enhanced customer experience,” he said. “Technology and digitization are crucial factors for the enduring fascination of our brand – now and in the next 75 years.”
The My Porsche app is the place where Porsche owners can go to manage and maintain their vehicles digitally. Features the app has are ones such as showing the status and charge of the vehicle’s battery, air conditioning controls, send directions to the car’s navigation system, and link to third-party music providers like Apple Music.
However, within CarPlay now, Porsche users will have the ability to make adjustments to their vehicles like air conditioning, and other features listed above, but it will be tied in through the My Porsche app.Â
All of this can be activated by scanning a QR code in the Porsche Communication Management software in their vehicle and Porsche plans to start this new feature with the 2024 Porsche Cayenne, but with plans to add it to other vehicles in the years to come.
With all of that said, this is not part of the next-generation CarPlay system that Apple spoke about last year but more so just Porsche’s version of it.
