Tesla EVs Could Finally Bring AirPlay Support

Avatar for Nick Soong

With Tesla’s electric vehicles becoming more mainstream nowadays, it looks like Tesla is going to be one of the biggest automobile companies in the world. Although several major car manufacturers have had support for CarPlay, that is one of the features that I wish Tesla EVs would bring. However, we could see the next great feature coming to Tesla EVs soon, and that will be AirPlay support for the first time.

Currently, if iPhone users want to stream music to their Teslas, they would need to connect to Bluetooth, but it’s currently a finicky process to either set up or just connect. Over a year ago, Elon Musk said Tesla would consider adding AirPlay support as a more convenient way for iPhone users to broadcast their content. Just recently, @Tesla_iOS_App on Twitter discovered some new code from the latest version of the Tesla iPhone app that would allow AirPlay streaming.

As Apple’s AirPlay technology becomes more advanced with support for up to 24-bit/48kHz audio playback over WiFi, AirPlay has become a far more convenient way for users to enjoy streaming their music with their friends and family. Although we don’t have a timeframe on when this feature will be coming to Tesla EVs, it’s still possible that we could see this feature live sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, you can download the Tesla app for iOS on the App Store.
