Apple has started rolling out the sixth developer beta of tvOS 17 with important bug fixes, according to Apple’s Developer Webpage. This update comes one week after the release of tvOS 17 beta 5. We can expect the fourth Public Beta for tvOS 17 to be released within the next 24 Hours.

As the next Apple event is expected to take place in about a month, it seems that Apple has shifted to a weekly release schedule for the betas from a bi-weekly one to prepare and polish the software for the final launch.

The build number of this update is 21J5339b and it is compatible with both Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K.

tvOS 17 includes support for Dolby Vision 8.1, third-party VPNs, revamped Control Center, new Screen Savers, and finally, FaceTime. Users will also be able to handoff calls from their iPhone or iPad to their Apple TV with support for Center Stage.

According to Apple, “FaceTime on Apple TV takes advantage of Continuity Camera support to wirelessly connect to the user’s iPhone or iPad, and leverages the device’s camera and microphone to bring participants together on the TV.”
Third-party apps like Zoom and Webex will be added to the tvOS App Store later this year for users to use these apps on their Apple TV, along with FaceTime.

Here’s how it works:

Users who are registered as a developer on www.developer.apple.com can opt-in to receive beta updates by going into Settings>System>Software Updates>Get Beta Updates and selecting tvOS 17 Developer Beta. Do note that this version is not stable and is meant for testing purposes.
Users can also sign up as a Public Beta Tester for iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14 Sonoma, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17 on www.beta.apple.com to install beta software.

Along with tvOS 17 Beta 6, Apple also released the sixth developer betas of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and watchOS 10. The final versions of these will be released to the public this fall, most likely in September.
