First impressions: iPhone 15 Plus

Late last week, I was fortunate enough to get to upgrade to the brand-new iPhone 15 Plus that Apple unveiled and released last month.

For my model, I decided to get the black 128GB iPhone 15 Plus at my local Apple Store and was upgrading from my blue iPhone 12 Mini. As you can probably see, I was going from smallest to largest.

With that said, the top aspect of the iPhone 15 Plus that I love is its iPhone 5-like design. I’ve been a fan of that design since Apple originally released it and am glad the company has gotten away from iPhones shaped like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. What Apple has now is the best design of the iPhone I have seen when it comes to its rectangular look.

The two biggest changes for me have been the Dynamic Island and USB-C on the iPhone.

Dynamic Island has been useful for me when setting up timers and alarms, and then still being able to see them when using apps like TikTok or X/Twitter. I’m informed without requesting to be informed, yet also happier because I still have the necessary info on my screen.

I will be very interested to see how it looks when using one of my favorite iPhone apps, CARROT Weather. I love that app so much and cannot wait to see how it looks and performs on the Dynamic Island.

USB-C charging on this iPhone was one of the primary reasons I bought it. I already have an iPad Air fifth generation with USB-C for charging, so, to bring the two worlds together will be convenient in that regard. I also have a friend who has an Android smartphone, so if I’m in the same vehicle as him, mine or his, we can use the same charging cables.

As for the cameras, from what I have been able to use and test out so far, they have been good quality. However, I have not done anything extensive yet, so my full thoughts on that will have to come at a different time.

One thing about having a much larger iPhone I was concerned about was whether or not the phone would fit in my pants and coat pockets. I am thankful to say that not only does the phone fit well in my pocket for casual use, but it does fit in my favorite peacoat pocket, specifically on the upper left side breast pocket. That in itself is a major plus for this iPhone and my usage of it.

Lastly, the bigger screen is such a nice addition for someone like me who was coming from the much smaller iPhone 12 Mini. The 6.7-inch large OLED screen is perfect for watching YouTube and TikTok videos on. Heck, you could even argue it could be a good screen for watching live sporting events.

Expect a full review here on Appleosophy of the iPhone 15 Plus in the next few days.
