Despite the recent rumor of Apple announcing new iPads this week, the company is still focusing on its iPad line but in a different way.
Today, Apple has announced the brand new third model in the Apple Pencil lineup. The announcement comes with a somewhat different design, as well as the ability for charging the accessory through USB-C.
USB-C has played a significant factor in Apple over the last couple of years with Apple’s iPad line, MacBooks, and now iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro using USB-C as its charging port. Even Apple’s Siri Remote last year got updated with support for USB-C charging through its embedded USB-C port.
Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, had this to say about the new Apple Pencil.
“Apple Pencil has revolutionized note taking, sketching, and illustrating, unleashing endless possibilities for productivity and creativity,” he said. “Combined with the versatility of iPad, the new Apple Pencil unlocks another great option to experience the magic of digital handwriting, annotation, marking up documents, and more.”
This new Apple Pencil also works with all iPads that have a USB-C port on them. Users can also attach it to their iPads that have that feature supported. Users with iPad models that have M2 will get support for the hover function on the new Apple Pencil.
Additionally, the Apple Pencil (USB-C) is Apple’s most affordable version so far with a starting price of $79 and will be released in “early November,” according to Apple. Apple also said through its education program in the U.S. and will be priced at $69.
