Have you ever wanted to change the default notification sound whenever you receive on notification on your iPhone? You currently can’t do so, but that’s about to change with iOS 17.2, which is expected to be released in the coming weeks.

For years, Apple has made its iconic “tri-tone” sound the default notification sound for iOS until iOS 17, which introduced several new ringtones and alerts. At the same time, that version replaces that classic sound with “Rebound” as the current default notification sound. However, several people found that alert tone a bit quieter. Because that sound was not well received by some people, they wish they could go back to the original tone.

Now, in the latest beta of iOS 17.2, users will finally be able to change the default notification sound to their hearts’ content. When they navigate to the Sound & Haptics menu in the Settings app, they’ll find the new “Default Alerts” option, where they can choose between any tones, including ones bought from the Tone Store. (Do you remember that you can buy ringtones from there for $1.29 a tone?)

iOS 17.2 will bring several new enhancements that Apple has promised, including the Journal app, Tapback reactions, and Spatial Video recording via the iPhone 15 Pro for the upcoming Apple Vision Pro. iOS 17.2 will likely be released sometime next month.
