With the release of iOS 17.2 today, it also means the end of making purchases and renting movies and TV shows through iTunes, which had been hinted at previously.

From here on out, all purchases and rentals of movies and TV shows will have to be done through the Apple TV app on the iPhone and iPad, as well as the Apple TV with tvOS 17.2.

When accessing the Movies and TV Shows sections in the iTunes app, it will redirect users to go to the Apple TV app to make those purchases and rentals from there. Both the iTunes Movies and TV Shows apps on the Apple TV are still there in tvOS 17.2, but also tell users to go to the Apple TV app to access that content there.

Since these changes happened today, it makes it so iTunes is purely only for purchasing music and ringtones.

What are your thoughts on these changes to the iTunes and Apple TV apps today? Comment below or let us know on X at @appleosophy.
