Today, Apple leaker “Kosutami” has shared that the upcoming models like the Apple Watch X will feature a completely new band connector design. This change means all current bands won’t be compatible with the upcoming new models”‹”‹.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had hinted at this earlier, mentioning a new way to attach bands to the “Apple Watch X.” It seems that the existing band system, which has been consistent since the Apple Watch’s introduction in 2014, takes up too much space. Apple might be considering a magnetic attachment system to free up this space, potentially for larger batteries or other internal components.
This redesign, expected to include thinner casings and larger displays, is part of a broader revamp of the Apple Watch next year. Also rumored are new health features like blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection. While details are still unclear, this change is significant, given the current band system’s long-standing compatibility across different Apple Watch generations.
As Apple users, we’ve enjoyed the flexibility of swapping bands regardless of the watch generation, provided the casing width matched. But with this upcoming change, it looks like it’s time to say goodbye to our collection of bands. It’s a bold move by Apple, and it’s definitely going to spark discussions among the Apple community.
