Many Americans heard the news last year when it was announced that popular retailer Best Buy said it was going to stop selling physical DVDs and Blu-rays in its stores in 2024.
This also included other retailers such as Target that is not completely getting away from it in its stores, but certainly diminishing the amount of physical media that is available and being sold.
If you’re a millennial or older, you might have thought that a day would never come where retailers would quit selling physical media. However, due to streaming and streaming services, companies and retailers getting away from physical media like DVDs and Blu-rays is the new normal.
On the bright side, there are still retailers out there that you can still buy physical media from and also accept Apple Pay. They are the following.
In-store:
- Target
- Barnes & Noble
- For Your Entertainment (FYE)
- Half Price Books
- Goodwill
- Dollar General (its stores are known to have movie bins)
Online:
- Target
- Best Buy (the company still currently has some physical media on its website and app)
- eBay
- ThriftBooks
- Mercari
