Earlier this week, Apple pushed out its first beta of the next software update for iPad models, which is iPadOS 17.5. Both Steve Moser and Aaron Perris from MacRumors have dug deep into the code and discovered several references on what could come in iPadOS 17.5
Remember that new Battery Health menu in iOS 17 that details both the battery capacity and cycle counts? Only the cycle count feature is exclusive to all the iPhone 15 models; however, based on those references, it looks like Apple is expanding both features to future iPad models, including the long-anticipated iPad Air and iPad Pro, which are now expected to be both updated in May.
The current iPadOS 17.5 beta has some code references that reference the new feature:
- “iPad must be regularly used while not connected to power to show maximum capacity.”
- “This is the number of times the iPad has used your battery’s capacity.”
- “The iPad battery is performing as expected.”
- “iPad batteries, like all rechargeable batteries, have a limited lifespan and may eventually need to be serviced or replaced.”
- “The original battery was designed to retain X capacity at X cycles under ideal conditions. Actual battery performance depends on several variables, including how iPad is used and charged regularly. The one-year warranty includes service for defective batteries in addition to rights provided under local consumer laws.”
If you’ve installed the developer beta of iPadOS 17.5 beta on your iPad, you won’t see the aforementioned Battery Health menu. Therefore, it’s likely that we’ll see that feature make its debut on both the upcoming iPad Air and iPad Pro models as well as other iPads to follow suit. We’ll likely see the public release of iPadOS 17.5 alongside the introduction of both models in May.
