We’ve been expecting the next iPad Pros to feature OLED displays, which will be a huge upgrade over the LCD panel on the current 11-inch model and the mini-LED panel on the 12.9-inch model. Now, as a new additional detail we can expect, Display Supply Chain Consultants claims that those upcoming iPad Pros will use LTPO OLED displays. These will be the most advanced OLED displays on any tablet.

Both the Apple Watch and iPhone 15 Pro models also use LTPO displays, which allow the displays to have variable refresh rates and thus lower power consumption. So the next iPad Pro will see the same benefits with LTPO displays in addition to tandem stack structure and glass thinning.

The iPad Pros have ProMotion technology that allows the refresh rates to go up to 120 Hz depending on the user’s interactions. What would be cool to see is an always-on display on the upcoming iPad Pro since LTPO displays allow the refresh rates to go as low as 1 Hz on both the Apple Watch Series 9/Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro. However, that could depend on whether the upcoming iPadOS software release (17.5) will be optimized to support the always-on display. It could also be up to Apple to enable that feature on its upcoming flagship tablets.

Today’s report also collaborates with previous rumors, suggesting that the upcoming iPad Pro will come in both 11.1-inch and 12.9-inch sizes in a much slimmer design in both the bezels and overall thickness.

Because those OLED display panels are more expensive and difficult to produce, we may see initial shortages of the smaller model at launch, especially with production issues related to light leakages.

Several things we can expect for Apple’s “Let loose” event are the AI-focused M4 chip coming to the iPad Pro, new 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Air models, redesigned Magic Keyboard, and the next-generation Apple Pencil.

We’re less than one week until Apple’s “Let loose” event, which will go live on May 7 at 7 am PT. You can watch the live stream on Apple’s website or its YouTube channel.
