OpenAI today has officially released the ChatGPT for Mac app, available for all users to download. This comes after the company has been gradually rolling out the Mac app to ChatGPT Plus subscribers last month.

The ChatGPT app for Mac offers a seamless user experience with access to OpenAI’s advanced language model GPT-4o for natural, context-aware conversations. It features a user-friendly, uncluttered interface and supports cross-platform synchronization, allowing users to sync chat history and preferences across devices. The app provides offline access to recent chats and customizable settings for response length and tone, along with multi-tasking support and drag-and-drop capabilities. Other features include Advanced search and filtering, voice-to-text functionality, and screen reader support to enhance accessibility.

For both free and paid users, we’re also launching a new ChatGPT desktop app for macOS that is designed to integrate seamlessly into anything you’re doing on your computer. With a simple keyboard shortcut (Option + Space), you can instantly ask ChatGPT a question. You can also take and discuss screenshots directly in the app.

You can now have voice conversations with ChatGPT directly from your computer, starting with Voice Mode that has been available in ChatGPT at launch, with GPT-4o’s new audio and video capabilities coming in the future. Whether you want to brainstorm a new idea for your company, prepare for an interview or have a topic you’d like to discuss, tap the headphone icon in the bottom right corner of the desktop app to start a voice conversation.

You can download the ChatGPT for Mac app on the OpenAI website. Note, that the app is not available in the App Store. The ChatGPT app will eventually expand to computers with Windows later this year.
