Apple this week added the iPhone X, HomePod, and Original AirPods to the company’s vintage and obsolete product list. Apple considers products ‘vintage’ when the company stops distributing them for sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago.
The iPhone X was released on November 3, 2017, and marked a significant redesign in Apple’s smartphone lineup. Featuring a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display, it offered a near bezel-less experience and introduced Face ID, replacing Touch ID for secure facial recognition. Powered by the A11 Bionic chip, it provided exceptional performance, and its dual 12MP rear cameras with dual optical image stabilization allowed for stunning photos and 4K videos. The iPhone X was discontinued on September 12, 2018.
The HomePod, launched on February 9, 2018, was Apple’s venture into the smart speaker market. Designed to deliver high-fidelity audio, it featured spatial awareness technology to adapt sound to any room, a seven-tweeter array, and a high-excursion woofer. With Siri integration, it functioned as a smart home hub, providing voice-controlled access to various Apple services and smart home devices. The HomePod was discontinued on March 12, 2021.
The AirPods (1st generation) debuted on December 13, 2016, and set a new standard for wireless earbuds. Featuring the Apple-designed W1 chip, they offered seamless connectivity, efficient power management, and up to 5 hours of listening time on a single charge. The included charging case extended battery life, and dual beamforming microphones for clear voice calls and easy access to Siri. The Original AirPods were discontinued on March 20, 2019.
