As we get closer to the announcement of the highly anticipated iPhone 16 lineup, we have another report from reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on what we can expect for next year’s flagship smartphone from Apple.
According to Kuo, he expects that the iPhone 17 Pro Max for late 2025 will feature an upgraded 48-megapixel tetraprism camera. If we take a look at the current lineup, the iPhone 15 Pro models have a 48MP main, 12MP ultra-wide, and 12MP telephoto lens. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the first iPhone to feature a tetraprism telephoto camera, which offers 5x optical zoom in and 25x digital zoom in, and that upgrade is exclusive to only the larger model in the iPhone 15 Pro series. However, we now expect that upgraded camera to make its way to the upcoming smaller iPhone 16 Pro, making that feature standard on both the Pro models. Additionally, based on Jeff Pu’s previous report, both the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models will also feature the upgraded 48MP ultra-wide camera.
So with Kuo’s latest report, the iPhone 17 Pro for 2025 will finally have the super high 48 megapixel count standard across all of its three cameras though Kuo isn’t sure whether that megapixel upgrade will be exclusive to the larger Max model, but if that will be the case, then Apple will likely bring that camera upgrades in megapixel to smaller model the following year (late 2026 with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max). Apple tends to introduce new camera upgrades in the larger Pro Max model before making them standard on both Pro models the following year. For example, Apple introduced sensor-shift stabilization in the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and Apple made that feature standard across both the iPhone 13 Pro models.
We’re about two months until Apple announces the iPhone 16 lineup, which is expected to feature the upgraded A18 chip and 48MP ultra-wide lens in the Pro models.
