This week, FOX aired the 2024 MLB All-Star Game. On the same day, Dish, the parent company of Sling TV, announced that Sling TV would have a live 4K stream of the game on select devices.

For that game, compatible devices for the 4K stream included the Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices.

However, in the announcement, it also states that there are plans for Sling TV to have even more live 4K sporting events such as the 2024 Paris Olympics on NBCUniversal channels and future college football and NFL games on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) and ESPN.

What this could mean for Apple TV 4K users is that eventually, once support is added for live 4K content/sporting events to Sling TV’s tvOS app, it would give Apple TV 4K users with a subscription to Sling TV the ability to stream select sporting events in 4K directly from the Sling TV app.

Right now, the previous way Sling TV users were able to stream live sporting events in 4K with their subscription was if they were broadcast on FOX or FS1, and then they would have to sign in with their Sling TV credentials to the FOX Sports app in order to get said 4K stream of the sporting event.

Local FOX and NBC channels are only available on Sling TV in certain TV markets at this time and require the user being subscribed to either the Sling Blue or Sling Orange + Blue plans.

Sling Blue currently costs $40 a month and Sling Orange + Blue costs $55 a month. It is available to stream on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac.

There has not been an official announcement or date when or even if Sling TV will bring live 4K sporting events to the Apple TV, but with the addition of adding support for Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices, it is certainly a possibility that it is in the works at some point.
