We’re less than two months away from Apple’s anticipated introduction of the iPhone 16 lineup, but we got additional details on what we could expect for next year’s iPhone 17 lineup.
We previously reported that all the iPhone 17 models will have LTPO displays across the board. Now, according to the leaker known as “Ice Universe”, they’re also expecting those models, including the standard ones, to have that display upgrade. LTPO displays, which were first used on the iPhone 13 Pro models, enable ProMotion technology on iPhone, allowing the displays to refresh at variable refresh rates from 10Hz and 120Hz and thus saving battery life when displaying idle images. Those displays also enable always-on displays starting with the iPhone 14 Pro models. If the future iPhone 17 lineup will have LTPO displays standard across the board, this will mean that this will be the first time that the standard models will have this technology.
Additionally, the source also expects Apple to discontinue the Plus model in favor of an upcoming iPhone 17 “Slim” model. This model is also said to be Apple’s new flagship model, which will be priced above the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, this “Slim” model won’t have the largest screen in the lineup as it will allegedly have a 6.65-inch display, which will sit between the display sizes on the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. So here’s what next year’s lineup could look like:
- iPhone 17: 6.27-inch LTPO display starting at $799
- iPhone 17 Pro: 6.27-inch LTPO display starting at $1,099
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.86-inch LTPO display starting at $1,199
- iPhone 17 “Slim”: 6.65-inch LTPO display starting at $1,299
Looking at next year’s Pro models, they’ll reportedly feature an increase in RAM at 12GB, a triple 48MP Pro camera system, and an A19 Pro chip. The regular iPhone 17 models will have the base A19 chip.
What’s more interesting in that report is that the upcoming iPhone 17 “Slim” will feature a base A19 chip, a dual camera system, an aluminum chassis, and 8GB of memory. This seems quite odd considering that this supposedly-new flagship model would be bested by some of the more premium features that the Pro models offer such as the titanium enclosure. We’ll just have to wait and see what Apple has in store for this upcoming “Slim” model when the company introduces the iPhone 17 series in fall 2025.
