Apple announced its brand new products to the iPhone lineup at its ‘Glowtime’ event today ”“ iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, taking technology to the next level.
The highlighting feature of the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series is Apple Intelligence, which was announced during WWDC back in June 2024, as a part of iOS 18.
The iPhone 16 series is powered by the A18 and A18 Pro chip, with both the regular and Pro models featuring similar new features and changes. The limelight falls on the new Camera Control Button, which is also interactive, and available on all the four new models. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, powered by the new A18 Pro chip feature a larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR Display, but they now come with even slimmer bezels for a more futuristic look.
However, with all these new changes, the following two features still remain to be limited to iPhone models sold in the United States:
- mmWave 5G: Apple added support for faster mmWave 5G bands in the United States right when they added support for Sub-6GHz 5G with the iPhone 12. Four generations later, mmWave 5G still remains to be a U.S. exclusive feature.
- eSIM only: Two years back, Apple launched the iPhone 14 series without a SIM tray in the U.S. while customers from other countries continued getting a SIM tray with their iPhones. This is still the case with the current iPhone 16 series. Now, some might view this as a positive, while some may think this move to be negative. With eSIM, if a device is stolen or lost, the eSIM card cannot be removed, whereas the Physical SIM can be removed, proving that eSIM offers more security. As for the hassles of moving your SIM back and forth between devices, Apple recently added a “Transfer eSIM” option for your convenience so you can avoid dealing with your carrier to apply for a new eSIM. Regardless of the availability of a Physical SIM Slot on your iPhone, you can use dual eSIM on iPhone 13 and later if you wish to avail of such security. This means that you should be able to use your phone with two eSIMs installed and no physical SIM cards installed.
Even though Apple did not launch mmWave 5G on their iPhones globally, the iPhone 16 series is still a significant step forward in terms of mobile technology and Apple will continue to improve its iPhone lineup every year.
