Today, Apple updated the iMac with the M4 chip, supercharged with Apple Intelligence. Under the hood, Apple also updated its lineup of Magic Accessories to have the USB-C port, in place of the Lightning port, for charging.
If you may not know, the 12-inch MacBook was the first Apple product that pioneered USB-C connectivity. It eventually made its across the entire Mac and iPad lineup. Per EU’s policies that mandated Apple to switch from Lightning to USB-C, all iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models come with USB-C. Even the entire AirPods lineup was recently standardized with USB-C and so was the Siri Remote. However, the Magic Keyboard, Mouse, and Trackpad, have had Lightning for years ever since 2015, but that now has changed, and the ecosystem is now more consistent than ever.
Additionally, all three accessories are now color-matched to the new colors of the iMac. And in case you forgot, the Mac Pro has shipped with the Magic Accessories included – the default configuration is the Keyboard/Mouse combo, but the Trackpad is optional just as with the iMac. That change is also coming to new shipments of the Mac Pro, so it will come with the USB-C accessories as mentioned.
The USB-C accessories are available to purchase separately at Apple, and they immediately ship, so you won’t have to wait until November 8 (when the iMac launches) to get those products.
