Paramount+ was launched in March 2021 as a rebrand of the previous CBS All Access streaming service. I have had Paramount+ since it originally launched.
One of my primary uses for Paramount+ was streaming new episodes of “Young Sheldon,” along with watching old episodes of Nickelodeon shows like “SpongeBob SquarePants” and “Drake & Josh.” It was also a time where I was trying to find new streaming-based TV shows to watch as a young adult, with one of those being the “iCarly” reboot that started in 2021 too.
However, now that the “iCarly” reboot has been cancelled and “Young Sheldon” has ended, the only things that I have watched on Paramount+ have been “SpongeBob SquarePants” and sometimes my local CBS station if there is severe weather in my area.
It would be okay to have a streaming service just for those two purposes, but when you factor in the cost of the ad-free version of the service, which is currently $12.99 a month, and that I’m honestly reading more books and not watching much TV, it is hard to justify paying that fee each month.
I thought over this past summer that there was going to be a chance where I might cancel my subscription to Paramount+ but I was going to wait and see if I would like watching the “Young Sheldon” spin-off TV series “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage” that started airing on Paramount-owned CBS this fall.
The sad part…right now is that I generally don’t care for it. I’m not saying that won’t change but I’m not that impressed with the opening of the show, as well as some of the general storylines of the series. But with that disappointment being there, it made cancelling my Paramount+ subscription a much easier decision to make.
As it stands now, the only streaming service subscriptions that I currently have are Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ which are all bundled together. I don’t have any immediate plans to cancel that entirely, but with the rising costs of the ad-free plans, I’m going to be looking to minimize it and maybe trying to get rid of the ESPN+ part of it since I don’t usually use it, therefore, I should not be paying for it.
What other streaming services would I consider subscribing to in the future due to my loss in Paramount+?
Honestly, the only streaming services that really has any interest for me has been ad-free Peacock. Peacock has a wide variety of TV shows and movies to stream, as well as indie films. I’d still have access to my local NBC station plus Hallmark movies the day after they air on Hallmark Channel or other Hallmark networks. Those can come in handy to stream during the Christmas and overall holiday season.
Between Paramount+ and Peacock, Peacock offers more to me even if it would cost $1 more per month ($13.99 a month for the ad-free tier) than Paramount+. At the end of the day, you have to get what you think is worth your time and money, and Peacock might just be that for me.
