Apple is reportedly close to securing the exclusive U.S. streaming rights for Formula 1 races on Apple TV+ with a substantial bid of $150 million reported by Business Insider. This move would significantly expand Apple’s sports content offerings on its streaming platform.
Currently, Disney’s ESPN holds the broadcast rights for Formula 1 in the United States, with an existing deal valued at approximately $85 million annually. Reports indicate that Disney is not prepared to counter Apple’s higher offer, positioning Apple as the frontrunner in the negotiations. Other potential bidders, including Netflix, are said to have shown limited interest, leaving the path clear for Apple to add Formula 1 to its growing sports catalog. This would place Formula 1 alongside existing partnerships with Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer on Apple TV+.
This potential acquisition follows the success of “F1: The Movie,” an Apple original production that has already generated over $300 million globally at the box office. The film is anticipated to be available on Apple TV+ later in 2025.
