As we’re getting closer to the launch of the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, and we’ve been seeing dummy models of the said lineup, an anonymous tipster reached out to MacRumors that the iPhone 17 Pro is gearing up to feature even more exclusive camera-related features that weren’t previously rumored. Now it’s still important to keep in mind that these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.
According to the tipster, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to have:
- an upgraded Telephoto camera with up to 8x optical zoom in, an upgrade over the 5x optical zoom in for the iPhone 16 Pro models.
- an all-new pro camera app that will be step up to the stock Camera app that’s been bundled on iPhone models since the original iPhone. It’s unclear whether that pro camera app would be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro models.
- an additional Camera Control button that will be located along the top edge of the devices. All the iPhone 16 models have the Camera Control button along the right side underneath the side button. having another Camera Control button will give pro photographers/videographers more flexibility/utilization/control over camera settings when shooting photos and videos.
Going back to the upgraded Telephoto camera, it’s unclear whether that would make its way to both the iPhone 17 Pro models; however, I wouldn’t be surprised if it would come to only the iPhone 17 Pro Max. If you think about it, Apple introduced upgraded Pro camera specs to only the Pro Max model first before trickling down to the smaller Pro model the following year. We saw that with the tetraprism lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max first before it made its way to both iPhone 16 Pro models the year after.
We expect Apple to introduce the iPhone 17 lineup on the week of September 8, so it won’t be too long to find out the final details for those models.
