Every Mac has its moment in the spotlight — from keynote cheers to countless hours of daily use. But eventually, the curtain falls. Apple has now quietly moved three of its MacBook models to the obsolete products list, marking the end of their official support journey. This includes the last 11-inch MacBook Air from Early 2015, MacBook Pro 13-inch from 2017 with four Thunderbolt 3 Ports, and MacBook Pro 15-inch from 2017.
The first 11-inch MacBook Air was introduced in 2010, two years after the launch of the original MacBook Air, with the last iteration being launched in 2015 for $899.
According to Apple, “Products are considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago. Apple discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products, and service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. Mac laptops may be eligible for an extended battery-only repair period for up to 10 years from when the product was last distributed for sale, subject to parts availability.”
Apple itself stopped selling the 11-inch model back in October 2016, which is more than 7 years ago, which could imply that they were still being sold by third-party resellers for a limited time till 2018.
Additionally, an Apple product from September 2017 also made its way to Apple’s vintage list — the iPhone 8 Plus, which came with 64GB and 256GB Storage options. According to Apple, “Products are considered vintage when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago.”
The move highlights Apple’s ongoing product cycle, where older devices gradually shift to the vintage and obsolete lists as new models take center stage.
