Apple today announced the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, AirPods Pro 3, Apple Watch Series 11, SE 3, and Ultra 3 at its “Awe Dropping event”, which lasted for a total of 1 Hour and 10 minutes.

This year, Apple has brought some of the most requested features to the base iPhone 17.  The new 6.3-inch iPhone 17 and 6.5-inch iPhone Air come with 120Hz ProMotion and Always-On Display, similar to Pro models such as the iPhone 16 Pro. The display also comes with 3000 nits of Peak outdoor brightness and Ceramic Shield 2, which offers 3x better scratch resistance than the previous generation, along with improved anti-glare.

The iPhone 17 is powered by the A19 chip, while the iPhone Air is powered by the A19 Pro.

On the forefront, these new iPhones look fantastic. However, with all of these new features, there’s got to be some noticeable differences between the regular and the Pro. Well, unfortunately, it seems that the regular iPhone 17 models, including the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air, will have significantly slower USB-C transfer speeds, with it being limited to 480Mbps (USB 2.0) while the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will have USB 3 Speeds (10Gbps). That’s a difference of 20 times! This was the case with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro as well.

However, to achieve such a high speed of 10Gbps on an iPhone 17 Pro model, you’d have to purchase a Thunderbolt 4 Pro Cable separately, as the one provided in the box does not seem to support this speed.

If you do not use cable to transfer your files and use wireless options, you shouldn’t be concerned about this. Even with minor differences like these, the regular iPhone 17 looks like a lucrative option if you are upgrading from an older iPhone.

The iPhone 17 will be available in five new finishes, including lavender, mist blue, sage, white, and black, while the Air will be available in Sky Blue, Light Gold, Cloud White, and Space Black. The iPhone 17 starts at $799 for 256GB and $999 for the 512GB variant. The iPhone Air starts at $999 for the 256GB base variant, $1,199 for the 512GB variant, and $1,399 for the 1TB variant.

The new Pro models will be available in three elegant finishes: Silver, Cosmic Orange, and Deep Blue. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099 for the 256GB variant, $1,299 for the 512GB variant, $1,499 for the 1TB variant. The larger Pro Max starts at $1,199 for the 256GB variant, $1,399 for the 512GB variant, $1,599 for the 1TB variant, and $1,999 for the 2TB variant. The iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be available to Pre-order on September 12th starting at 5 a.m. PT, and they will be available starting September 19th.

The iPhone 17 series is a significant step forward in terms of mobile technology and Apple will continue to improve its iPhone lineup every year. Which model are you planning to get?
