Apple today announced the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, AirPods Pro 3, Apple Watch Series 11, SE 3, and Ultra 3 at its “Awe Dropping event”, which lasted for a total of 1 Hour and 10 minutes. This year, Apple has brought some of the most requested features to the base iPhone 17, and introduced an even better Pro iPhone, along with the thin iPhone Air.
The iPhone 17 lineup, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, supports 40 watts of fast-wired USB-C Charging. This means that users will be able to charge their iPhone from 0-50% in just 20 minutes. However, the iPhone Air will still charge up to 50% in 30 minutes using a 20W Adaptor. The exclusion of the iPhone Air might be due to its thin design, which could be a challenge for heat dissipation while using faster charging. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max feature a vapor chamber for cooling, which should help in faster sustained charging.
In connection to this, Apple also launched a new Power Adapter called “40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max” for $39. As the name suggests, the adapter should be able to provide sustained 40W of power with 60W being the maximum power it can provide.
