iFixit’s teardown for iPhone Air MagSafe Battery reveals same battery used on iPhone Air

With the iPhone Air arriving in Apple Stores, iFixit posted a teardown for the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery. As you may know, Apple claims that users should get all-day battery life with the iPhone Air despite initial doubts; however, for some more extreme cases, Apple also sells a MagSafe Battery that’s designed for the iPhone Air.

As you can see in this teardown, you’ll see that the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery uses the exact same shape of the battery as that of the iPhone Air itself. Since Apple wanted to squeeze in as much battery as possible, Apple designed the iPhone Air by having most of the components located inside the camera plateau area, so this would make room for a high-density battery. That’s also why Apple went all in with eSIM for the iPhone Air to make the most of the empty space.

It’s possible that the battery inside the MagSafe Battery pack has the same capacity as that of the iPhone Air itself. Apple claims that the MagSafe Battery provides up to 65% additional charge to iPhone Air; that’s mainly due to the inefficiencies of wireless charging when some energy would be lost when transferring to the iPhone Air. According to the Tech Specs/Compare page, users should get up to 40 hours of video playback with the MagSafe Battery (vs. 27 hours with just the iPhone Air itself).

With iPhone Air now in customers’ hands now, only time will tell if people would be happy enough with the battery life that the iPhone Air will provide, or that they would still need the MagSafe Battery after all.
