Apple has announced the new 14-inch MacBook Pro, featuring the powerful M5 chip, which represents a substantial advancement in AI capabilities and overall performance for professional users. Available for pre-order today and set to ship beginning October 22, this model starts at $1,599 and maintains the same entry price as its predecessor while introducing significant enhancements.

The M5 chip forms the core of this updated MacBook Pro, incorporating a next-generation 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators in each core, a faster 16-core Neural Engine, and over 150GB/s of unified memory bandwidth. These elements enable up to 3.5x faster AI performance compared to the M4 chip and up to 6x faster than the M1.  The enhanced CPU delivers up to 20 percent faster multithreaded performance versus the M4.

Graphics capabilities see up to 1.6x faster performance in professional applications and higher frame rates in games relative to the M4 model.  Storage improvements include up to 2x faster SSD speeds, with options up to 4TB.

As John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, stated: “MacBook Pro continues to be the world’s best pro laptop, and today, the 14-inch MacBook Pro gets even better with the arrival of the M5 chip.”

Apple’s silicon architecture prioritizes AI from the ground up, allowing the M5 to handle on-device tasks with remarkable efficiency and privacy. Applications such as Draw Things for text-to-image generation and LM Studio for LLMs operate at accelerated speeds, supporting workflows in deep learning, data modeling, and AI-driven video enhancement.

Priced at $1,599—or $1,499 with education pricing—the device comes standard with 16GB unified memory and is offered in space black and silver. Pre-orders are live today via apple.com and the Apple Store app in 30 countries, with shipments starting October 22.  Apple Trade In provides credit for eligible devices, and AppleCare+ offers extended protection.
