Apple announced a new iteration of the iPad Pro today, with the M5 chip, custom-designed C1X modem, and N1 wireless chip.

From a cursory look, the new iPad may simply seem like a chip update with CPU/GPU improvements, but if we dive deeper, we can find some more useful upgrades for Pro customers.

The new iPad Pro with M5 comes with 12GB of RAM for models with 256GB or 512GB of storage, marking a 50% increase from the M4 iPad Pro, which consists of 8GB of RAM for the same storage variants.

M5 iPad Pro models with 1TB and 2TB of storage still offer the same amount of RAM as the M4 iPad Pro, which is 16GB.

The newer M5 models also offer memory bandwidth of 153GB/s, which 27.5% increase from 120GB/s offered in the M4 iPad Pros. Higher memory bandwidth results in transferring more data between the CPU, GPU, and unified memory at once. Combined with more RAM, it improves multitasking, processing of large files, and a smoother overall system experience.

The M5 iPad Pro is available to preorder with a starting price of $999 for the 11-inch variant and $1,299 for the 13-inch variant models with 256GB of storage. The new models will be available starting October 22.
