WhatsApp has started testing the long-requested Apple Watch app, letting users read chats, reply, send reactions and even record voice notes directly from their wrist. The rollout arrived through the TestFlight app and was documented by WABetaInfo.

This first build brings far more than simple notification mirroring: users can scroll a chat list, open recent conversations and view media, send quick replies or dictated messages, react with emojis, and record voice messages from the watch interface.

The watch must be paired with an iPhone for full functionality, and the app currently relies on that phone connection rather than operating totally offline or untethered. According to testing notes, the app automatically links to the paired iPhone (no QR scanning required) and shows a small status indicator on the watch for syncing or lost connectivity.

For years, Apple Watch users have been limited to notification replies for WhatsApp. This app closes that gap by bringing the essential WhatsApp interactions to the wrist — reading full messages, reacting quickly and sending voice replies — which should make short, frequent interactions far more convenient.

Right now the app is available only to beta testers via TestFlight; Meta hasn’t announced a public launch date. Expect the usual beta cycle: broader testing, bug fixes and incremental feature additions before an App Store release.
