For Apple TV 4K users that are heavy Disney+ users, you’ll want to read this.
Cord Cutters News has reported that starting on Monday, December 1, the first generation Apple TV 4K will no longer have support for the Disney+ app.
“The change stems from an upcoming app update that raises the minimum operating system requirements, rendering the streaming service inaccessible on hardware unable to meet the new thresholds. This development, communicated through emails to affected users, marks another step in the ongoing evolution of streaming platforms, where rapid advancements in features like enhanced security protocols, higher-resolution playback, and interactive elements demand more robust software environments.”
Apple originally released the first Apple TV 4K in September 2017. Needless to say, it is on the older end of Apple TV devices. However, it is unclear at this time if devices like the Apple TV HD will still be supported in some way or another.
Disney+ Help Center currently states that Apple TV devices such as the Apple TV HD (fourth generation or newer) and Apple TV 4K are still supported as long as they are running tvOS 16 and later.
This could just be a simple wake-up call for people still using the Apple TV 4K first generation to get a newer version of said Apple TV 4K.
Apple currently sells the 64GB Wi-Fi-only Apple TV 4K third generation for $129 and the 128GB model with Wi-Fi and Ethernet for $149. Since it the holiday season is here with deals and sales, interested customers could look for discounted prices on the Apple TV 4K third generation through retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.
Disney+ is expected to become even more popular later this year and into next year as it is looking to merge both Disney+ and Hulu into one app; the said Disney+ app.
