Bloomberg: Johny Srouji considering leaving Apple

In a recent report from Bloomberg, Johny Srouji, who is Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technologies, is considering leaving Apple. In case you may not know, he oversaw the Mac’s transition to Apple Silicon from 2020 to 2023, as well as Apple’s recent development towards its in-house cellular modems and networking chips, as we saw within these products launched this year:

  • C1 cellular modem: iPhone 16e
  • C1X cellular modem: iPhone Air and iPad Pro (M5)
  • N1 wireless networking chip: iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPad Pro (M5)

Apple’s expanded development towards those chips further reduces reliance on other manufacturers to develop components, and thus, gives Apple more control over its hardware for maximum optimisation.

As you may know, Apple has been seeing major transitions across the executive board, so with all the news that has been going on, this rumor shouldn’t probably come as a surprise. To recap, these are the executive transitions that have been planned at Apple:

  • John Giannandrea stepped down as vice president of AI, with Amar Subramanya joining Apple as his successor.
  • Kate Adams is set to retire late next year, with Jennifer Newstead taking her place as Apple’s general counsel starting March 1, 2026.
  • Lisa Jackson, vice president for Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, will retire in late January 2026.

However, despite several transitions listed here, one report from the same source indicates that Tim Cook will not retire from his role as Apple’s CEO. Still, the major shakeup at Apple proves to be an interesting turning point, especially when we’re at the end of 2025, which could raise uncertainties of what the next year would look like for Apple; not to mention that 2026 also marks the 50th anniversary of Apple’s founding. For what it’s worth, I’m still optimistic that Apple will have another solid (if not better) year, as there are several products that have been rumoured to come out, particularly the low-cost MacBook, which could substantially boost MacBook sales, and most prominently, the “iPhone Fold”, which has arguably been Apple’s most anticipated product in years. Plus, with a new executive in the AI field, we could finally see significant improvements in both Siri and Apple Intelligence. Although it’s too early to tell, I’d say the major shakeup will set Apple up for the better, especially in the age of machine learning.

I think after all the reading of different Senior level executive leaving that maybe is actually shaking the Apple tree and those leaving were ready to go. So Glad that Tim Cook still onboard.
