You know it’s that time again. A few days ago, on New Year’s Eve, Apple added both the last Intel MacBook Air and the Apple Watch Series 5 to its vintage products list. By definition, Apple products are considered ‘vintage’ when 5-7 years have elapsed since Apple stopped selling and distributing the said products.

Both the Apple Watch Series 5 from 2019 and the last Intel MacBook Air from 2020 were notable products. For the Apple Watch Series 5, not only did the Edition models introduce titanium for the Apple Watch, but the Edition models were also the last ones to feature a ceramic casing at a higher starting price. Both the Apple Watch Edition Series 6 and Series 7 models only featured titanium in their casing before Apple discontinued the Edition line altogether, positioning the Hermès lineup as the only luxurious Apple Watch experience.

The last Intel MacBook Air was immediately discontinued when Apple introduced the M1 MacBook Air as one of the very first Macs with Apple Silicon. Additionally, the last Intel MacBook Air is one of the very last Intel-based Macs with the T2 security chip that does not support the latest version of macOS: macOS Tahoe.

To recap, these are the products that Apple added to its vintage and obsolete list this week:

  • MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020)
  • iPhone 8 Plus (128GB) – other capacities were already marked as ‘vintage.’
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPad Air 3 (Wi-Fi + Cellular) – Wi-Fi only models are not marked as ‘vintage’ yet
  • Apple Watch Series 5 (all models/sizes)

If you have a vintage product, you may still be eligible for repairs, but only if the parts needed for repair are available.
