In the latest weekly edition of Mark Gurman’s Powered On newsletter, he expects Apple to update the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Studio Display in the first half of 2026. He further adds that Apple is gearing up to upgrade its MacBook Pros again as soon as the second half of this year, though a 2027 introduction hasn’t been completely ruled out. Many sources speculated that we could see MacBook Pros with M5 Pro/M5 Max as soon as this week to coincide with the launch of Apple Creator Studio, so expect that update to be just a spec bump.
However, the following update for the second half of 2026 will be a significant upgrade with an all-new design, OLED multi-touch displays, Dynamic Island, M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, and possibly built-in cellular connectivity. Apple did introduce the MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max in January 2023, and Apple debuted the MacBook Pro with the M3 family of chips in October 2023, so history could repeat itself this year.
Gurman also expects Apple to update the MacBook Air with the M5 chip and the Mac Studio with the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. He also expects the lower-end, smaller MacBook with an A18 Pro chip and the updated Mac mini (presumably with the M5 and M5 Pro chips) to come out sometime this year. All in all, this is going to be a huge year for the Mac.
