Chances are that you may have heard about the latest and greatest M4 Mac mini thanks to Clawdbot. As demand for the tiny “supercomputer” continues to grow, Apple today officially announced plans that Foxconn will commence creating assembly lines for some Mac minis in Houston, Texas, later this year, according to The Wall Street Journal. This plan will be part of Apple’s commitment to invest $600 billion in the U.S. by August 2029.
Believe it or not, this won’t be the first time that Apple has some Macs assembled in the U.S. If you recall, the 2019 Mac Pro, which saw a departure from the controversial “trash can” design in favor of the traditional (yet modernized) “cheese grater” tower design, is assembled in Texas starting in 2019, so the latest Mac mini will soon follow suit.
Additionally, Apple’s A16 chips have also been manufactured in the United States, specifically in Arizona, and they’re currently being used on the base iPad. We expect the next iPad to come equipped with the A18 chip as soon as the first week of March.
The Mac mini was last updated in October 2024, and it was redesigned around Apple Silicon to be more space-efficient than ever before. Packed with the M4 and M4 Pro, this Mac mini is just a little computer that could. We expect the Mac mini to be updated with the M5 and M5 Pro later this year.
