MacPaw today announced the introduction of a new AI Gateway functionality, along with new marketplace options for developers on Setapp.

What is Setapp? Setapp is a platform designed by MacPaw, offering a plethora of useful apps and tools for your Mac and iPhone.

With today’s update, the AI Gateway facilitates a ‘unified API layer’ for several AI tools, such as those from Google, OpenAI, and other providers. The unified API layer will enable developers to move across these providers and their AI models more efficiently.

According to MacPaw, “This new approach offers a variety of benefits, including simplified billing through the MacPaw Wallet, ready-to-use SDKs for macOS and web, faster deployment, and more.”
Developers can read more about this here.

“Additionally, to continue evolving Setapp into an open software marketplace, we’re enabling developers to offer their applications outside the Setapp Membership, creating new opportunities for a broader range of developers to join the platform.

Users will also have access to new applications available for the first time on Setapp, giving them more flexibility in personalizing and managing their plans all from one place. New applications will be added on a rolling basis, and we’re looking forward to welcoming new developers to the platform and helping them grow on Setapp.”

Under the FAQ section of the announcement, MacPaw states that an app can potentially be made available both under the Setapp membership and single-app subscription, although this would be reviewed on a ‘case-by-case’ basis.

Moreover, apps that are not in the membership will not have any additional upgrades or display any ads.
