iPhone Air 2 to launch in spring 2027 with two improvements

Apple launched the iPhone Air alongside the iPhone 17 lineup back last September. Keep in mind that the iPhone Air is a product of its own as opposed to being part of the iPhone 17 lineup. With that said, the iPhone Air sits between the regular iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro models, yet it became the odd “middle child” for various reasons. One of the weaknesses of the iPhone Air is that it features just one rear camera. Because the iPhone Air starts at $999, you could arguably get an even better value when going with the regular iPhone 17, which has two rear cameras, yet it starts at $799.

Thankfully, a new report from Bloomberg indicates that the next iPhone Air could finally mitigate this issue, as it claims that the iPhone Air with two rear cameras has reached the advanced testing phase. This could mean that the next iPhone Air would have both an ultra-wide camera and a wide camera, similar to what we’ve had with the standard iPhone models. Of course, the iPhone Pro models will still be ahead in the camera department by having an additional telephoto camera (bringing a total of three rear cameras).

Additionally, the report also says that Apple is aiming to bring longer battery life to the iPhone Air. Since the next generation should feature a similar design to the current iPhone Air has, Apple may not have more room to put in a larger battery. However, it’s rumored that the A20 series of chips will be built on the new 2nm process for better efficiency, so the next iPhone Air with the supposed A20 Pro chip should feature longer battery life.

Keep in mind that we expect Apple to announce just the iPhone 18 Pro models and the “iPhone Ultra” this coming September, but Apple will introduce the lower-end iPhone 18e, the standard iPhone 18, and the next-generation iPhone Air in the spring, as previous rumors suggest that Apple is staggering its iPhone releases to maintain fresh marketing year-round.

Would you a second ultra-wide camera and a longer battery finally convince you to switch to an iPhone Air? Sound off in the comments below.
